Plot: a genetically inferior man assumes the identity of a superior one in order to pursue his lifelong dream of space travel.
Analysis: Gattaca is a futuristic sci-fi movie. However and contrary to what we are used to from this kind of movies, Gattaca does not focus on scary monsters, desolated terrains or spectacular special effects but purely on the nature and the spirit of the man himself. And that element is what makes this film so humane and realistic. To be honest, although each and every aspect of the movie is quite good, including the elegant direction, the solid scenario and the perfomances, where Law is extremely persuasive and the romantic sparkle between Hawke and Therman is visible even from the outer space –after all this movie was the begging of their relationship which ended in a marriage– there is nothing excelling. Even though this may look like a big minus, it is in fact a strong plus, since Gattaca's sole purpose is to bring out the sentiments without amazing you with radiant scenes.
Just like the calm sea will stun you with its vast immensity, Gattaca will sweep you along while picturing the hero's strenuous and constant struggle to surpass his own nature. A struggle which proves that a human's will is by far the most spectacular, the most impressive and the most breathtaking force in this world.
